Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Huntsville, Alabama, founded in 1805, has a rich history rooted in its origins as a small farming community. The city quickly grew in the early 19th century due to its strategic location along the Tennessee River, which facilitated trade and transportation. Huntsville played a significant role in the Civil War, serving as a major center for manufacturing and supplying Confederate forces. After the war, Huntsville experienced a period of economic growth and industrialization, becoming known for its textile mills and cotton production. In the mid-20th century, Huntsville underwent a transformation with the establishment of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960. This led to Huntsville being dubbed the “Rocket City” and becoming a key player in the United States’ space exploration efforts. Today, Huntsville is a thriving metropolitan area known for its aerospace industry, high-tech research facilities, and vibrant cultural scene.
