Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Huntsville, Alabama, founded in 1805 by John Hunt, quickly became a bustling center of commerce and industry in the early 19th century. The city’s prime location along the Tennessee River made it an ideal hub for transportation and trade. Huntsville also played a crucial role in the development of the American space program, with the establishment of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960. During the Civil War, Huntsville was occupied by Union forces, leading to its rapid growth and prosperity. The city continued to thrive in the post-war years, attracting new industries and businesses. Today, Huntsville is known for its high-tech industry, with major employers such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The city is also home to numerous cultural attractions, including the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and the Huntsville Botanical Garden. Huntsville remains a vibrant and growing city, with a rich history and a promising future.
