Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Huntsville, Alabama has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1805 by John Hunt, a pioneer settler. Originally known as Twickenham, the city quickly became a hub for trade and commerce due to its strategic location along the Tennessee River. During the early 19th century, Huntsville played a key role in the development of Alabama as a state, hosting the constitutional convention in 1819 that led to its admission to the Union. In the mid-20th century, Huntsville experienced a boom in population and economic growth thanks to the establishment of the Redstone Arsenal, a major military installation. This also attracted an influx of scientists and engineers, earning the city the nickname “Rocket City” for its key role in the development of the US space program. Today, Huntsville is a thriving city known for its aerospace industry, vibrant arts scene, and Southern charm. Its historic district, museums, and outdoor attractions continue to draw visitors from around the country.
