Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Nestled in the Tennessee Valley, Huntsville, Alabama has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally settled by Native American tribes, the area was later established as a trading post by John Hunt in 1805. The town quickly grew into a thriving community due to its strategic location along the Tennessee River. During the Civil War, Huntsville served as an important military center for the Confederacy, with several battles fought in the surrounding areas. After the war, the city began to rebuild and industrialize, becoming a hub for cotton and textile manufacturing. In the 1950s, Huntsville became a key player in the space race, with the establishment of the Marshall Space Flight Center by NASA. This marked the beginning of Huntsville’s transformation into a major aerospace and technology hub, earning it the nickname “Rocket City.” Today, Huntsville continues to be a vibrant and innovative city, blending its rich history with modern advancements in science and technology.
