Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Houston, Texas was founded in 1836 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen. They named the new settlement after Sam Houston, a hero of the Texas Revolution and later president of the Republic of Texas. Originally a small trading post located on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, Houston quickly grew into a bustling city due to its strategic location near the Gulf of Mexico and easy access to transportation routes. During the 20th century, Houston experienced immense growth and became a major center for the oil and gas industry. The city’s economy diversified over time, with the development of industries such as aerospace, healthcare, and technology. Houston is also known for its cultural diversity, with a large population of immigrants from around the world contributing to the city’s vibrant arts and culinary scenes. Today, Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and continues to thrive as a hub for business, culture, and innovation.
