Hickory, North Carolina, has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century when the area was first settled by European immigrants. The city was officially incorporated in 1870 and quickly became a hub for the furniture industry, earning the nickname “The Furniture Capital of North Carolina.” Hickory experienced rapid growth and prosperity in the early 20th century, with numerous furniture factories and mills sprouting up around the city. The introduction of the railroad further fueled economic development and brought more people to the area.
