Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Greenville, South Carolina was founded in 1768 by a man named Richard Pearis, who established a trading post and a grist mill on the Reedy River. The town quickly grew into a vibrant community, attracting settlers of various backgrounds. During the American Revolution, Greenville played a strategic role as a supply center for the Patriot forces. In the early 19th century, the city became a hub for cotton production, with the construction of numerous textile mills along the river. This economic boom brought wealth and prosperity to Greenville, leading to the development of a thriving downtown area with grand Victorian buildings and bustling shops. In the 20th century, Greenville faced challenges as the textile industry declined, but the city successfully diversified its economy and attracted new industries, such as automotive and technology companies. Today, Greenville is known for its strong economy, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for residents and visitors alike.
