Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Green Bay, Wisconsin, named for the body of water along which it sits, has a rich history dating back over a thousand years. The area was originally inhabited by the Menominee, Ho-Chunk, and Ojibwe Native American tribes, who thrived off the abundant natural resources of the region. In the 17th century, French fur traders arrived in Green Bay, establishing a fur trading post which would eventually become a permanent settlement. The area was later ceded to the British in the Treaty of Paris in 1763, and then to the United States in the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. Green Bay quickly grew into a bustling town, fueled by its strategic location on the Fox River and Lake Michigan. The city became known for its paper mills, shipping industry, and most famously, its football team, the Green Bay Packers. Today, Green Bay is a thriving city known for its strong sense of community, outdoor recreation opportunities, and rich cultural heritage.
