Green Bay, Wisconsin, a city located on the shores of Lake Michigan, has a rich history dating back over a thousand years. The area was originally inhabited by the Menominee, Fox, and Ojibwe Native American tribes before French explorers arrived in the 17th century. In 1634, French explorer Jean Nicolet established a trading post in the area, making it a hub for the fur trade. In the late 18th century, Green Bay became part of the United States after the signing of the Treaty of Greenville. It quickly grew as a center for trade and commerce, with shipbuilding and lumber industries playing a major role in its economy. In 1865, the Chicago and North Western Railway established a line through Green Bay, further boosting its growth. The city continued to prosper throughout the 20th century, becoming known for its paper mills and dairy industry. Today, Green Bay is a vibrant city with a strong sense of community and a rich cultural heritage.
