Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Green Bay, Wisconsin was founded by French fur traders in the 1600s, making it one of the oldest communities in the state. Originally named La Baie Verte, the city quickly became a strategic trading post for fur and other goods due to its location on the shores of Lake Michigan. In the early 19th century, Green Bay saw an influx of European immigrants, particularly from Germany and Ireland, who helped to establish the city’s industrial base. The city grew rapidly throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, becoming known for its paper mills, shipping industry, and agricultural production. Green Bay is perhaps most famous for being the home of the Green Bay Packers, one of the oldest and most storied franchises in the National Football League. The team’s success has helped to put Green Bay on the map as a sports-loving city with a strong sense of community pride. Today, Green Bay continues to thrive as a hub of industry, culture, and recreation in Wisconsin.
