Fresno, California was founded in 1872 as a railway station for the Central Pacific Railroad. The city quickly grew into an important hub for agriculture, thanks to its fertile soil and favorable climate. By the early 1900s, Fresno had become known as the “Raisin Capital of the World,” as local farmers began growing grapes and producing raisins on a large scale. In the 1940s, Fresno experienced a population boom as people moved to the city in search of jobs in the agriculture industry. The city continued to grow throughout the mid-20th century, attracting new residents and businesses with its thriving economy and cultural diversity. Today, Fresno is the fifth-largest city in California and remains an important center for agriculture, particularly in the production of fruits, nuts, and dairy products. The city is also known for its vibrant arts scene, historic architecture, and diverse population.
