Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Wayne, Indiana was originally established as a trading post by the Miami Native American tribe in the early 19th century. In 1794, General Anthony Wayne ordered the construction of a fort at the site to protect settlers from Native American attacks during the Northwest Indian War. The fort was named in honor of General Wayne, thus the city came to be known as Fort Wayne. As the city grew, it became a hub for trade and transportation, thanks to its strategic location at the confluence of the St. Marys, St. Joseph, and Maumee rivers. By the mid-19th century, Fort Wayne had become a bustling industrial city, known for its manufacturing and transportation industries. Today, Fort Wayne is a thriving city with a diverse economy that includes healthcare, education, manufacturing, and defense industries. The city is also known for its cultural attractions, including museums, parks, and a vibrant arts scene.
