Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Collins, Colorado was originally inhabited by Native American tribes before European settlers arrived in the 19th century. The city was founded in 1864 as a military outpost during the Indian Wars, named after Colonel William Collins who led the troops stationed there. As the settlement grew, it became an important agricultural center due to its fertile land and access to water from the Cache La Poudre River. In the early 20th century, Fort Collins began to diversify its economy with the establishment of Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University) in 1870 and the growth of various industries such as sugar beet processing and brewing. The city also became known for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, with the opening of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in 1978. Today, Fort Collins is a thriving community with a strong economy, highly ranked schools, and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. It is often recognized as one of the best places to live in the United States, drawing residents and visitors alike to its picturesque surroundings and lively atmosphere.
