Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Fort Collins, Colorado was originally settled by the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes before becoming a bustling trading post for fur trappers in the early 19th century. The town was officially established in 1864 as a military outpost to protect travelers along the Overland Trail. As the town grew, it quickly became a center for agriculture, particularly sugar beet farming and cattle ranching. The establishment of Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University) in 1870 further solidified Fort Collins as a hub for education and innovation. In the 20th century, Fort Collins experienced rapid growth and urban development, becoming known for its thriving craft brewing industry and outdoor recreational opportunities. Today, Fort Collins is a vibrant city known for its beautiful natural surroundings, historic Old Town district, and strong sense of community. Despite its growth, Fort Collins has managed to maintain its small-town charm and commitment to preserving its rich history.
