Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Collins, Colorado was founded in 1864 as a military outpost by the US Army during the Indian Wars. Named after Colonel William O. Collins, the fort served as a strategic hub for settlers traveling westward on the Overland Trail. As the area began to attract more permanent residents, the fort was dismantled and the town of Fort Collins was officially incorporated in 1873. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fort Collins thrived as an agricultural community, with farming and ranching playing a significant role in the local economy. The establishment of Colorado State University in 1870 brought a new level of education and culture to the town. In recent years, Fort Collins has become known for its vibrant arts scene, craft breweries, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The city’s historic downtown area is lined with charming shops and restaurants, and its proximity to the Rocky Mountains makes it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Today, Fort Collins continues to grow and evolve while still celebrating its rich history and heritage.
