Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Collins, Colorado was founded as a military outpost in 1864 during the height of the Indian Wars. Named after Lt. Colonel William O. Collins, the fort was established to protect travelers on the Overland Trail and the Cache la Poudre River. The fort was decommissioned in 1867, but the town that had grown up around it continued to thrive. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fort Collins became known for its agricultural industry, particularly sugar beet production. The town also became home to the Colorado Agricultural College, which would later become Colorado State University. In the mid-20th century, the town saw a surge in population as it became a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and retirees. Today, Fort Collins is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, craft breweries, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The city has a population of over 170,000 residents and continues to attract new residents and visitors alike.
