Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Collins, Colorado, was founded as a military outpost in 1862 during the height of tensions between European settlers and the Native American tribes of the region. The fort was intended to protect travelers on the Overland Trail and serve as a base for future expansion into the western frontier. As the settlement grew, it became a hub for ranchers, farmers, and tradespeople, who were drawn to the fertile land and opportunities for economic growth. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fort Collins experienced a boom in agriculture, particularly in the production of sugar beets, wheat, and livestock. The establishment of Colorado State University (then known as Colorado Agricultural College) in 1870 further bolstered the city’s economy and cemented its reputation as a center for education and research. Today, Fort Collins is known for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and thriving craft beer industry. It has retained its small-town charm while embracing modern amenities and sustainable practices, making it a popular destination for both residents and visitors alike.
