Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Collins, Colorado was founded in 1864 as a military outpost during the Indian Wars. The fort was built at the confluence of the Cache la Poudre River and the South Platte River to protect travelers and settlers from Native American attacks. The town quickly grew around the fort, attracting farmers, ranchers, and other settlers looking to make a new life in the West. By the late 1800s, Fort Collins had become a bustling agricultural hub, known for its sugar beet industry and quality cattle ranching. The town also developed a reputation for its commitment to education, with the founding of Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University) in 1870. In the 20th century, Fort Collins continued to grow and diversify, becoming a center for technology, research, and outdoor recreation. Today, the city is known for its vibrant arts community, craft breweries, and access to outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and skiing in the nearby Rocky Mountains.
