Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Fayetteville, Arkansas was founded in 1828 by Thomas Ball and named after Fayetteville, Tennessee. The city quickly grew into a thriving hub for commerce and agriculture, with the construction of the Butterfield Overland Mail route in the 1850s further boosting its economic prospects. During the Civil War, Fayetteville played a strategic role as a Confederate stronghold, serving as a base for troops and a center for supplies. After the war, the city experienced a period of rebuilding and expansion, with the establishment of the University of Arkansas in 1871 bringing new life and energy to Fayetteville. The university quickly became a key driver of the city’s cultural and economic development, attracting students and faculty from around the country. Today, Fayetteville is a vibrant and diverse city, known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and thriving arts and music scene. It continues to grow and evolve, while maintaining its deep-rooted sense of community and pride in its heritage.
