Fayetteville, Arkansas was founded in 1828 by pioneers who settled along the banks of the White River. Initially known as Washington Courthouse, the town quickly grew into a bustling community due to its strategic location along the Trail of Tears and its proximity to rich agricultural land. In 1836, the town was officially incorporated as Fayetteville, named after Fayetteville, Tennessee. During the Civil War, Fayetteville was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces, leading to significant damage and casualties. After the war, the city rebuilt and became a thriving hub for commerce and education.
