Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, Fayetteville, Arkansas has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. Founded in 1828 by George McGarrah, Fayetteville quickly became a hub of commerce and industry in the region. The city was named after Revolutionary War hero, Marquis de Lafayette. During the Civil War, Fayetteville served as a strategic location for both Union and Confederate forces. The city experienced significant growth and development during the post-war Reconstruction period, becoming a center for education and culture in northwest Arkansas. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fayetteville continued to thrive with the establishment of the University of Arkansas in 1871 and the introduction of the railroad, which spurred further economic growth. Today, Fayetteville is known for its vibrant arts community, thriving local businesses, and outdoor recreational opportunities. It remains a dynamic and welcoming city that honors its past while embracing the future.
