Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fargo, North Dakota was founded in 1871 by settlers drawn to the fertile land along the Red River. The city was named after William Fargo, a co-founder of Wells Fargo and Northern Pacific Railway, who played a crucial role in the development of the region. Early settlers, mostly of Scandinavian descent, began to establish farms and businesses in the area, leading to the rapid growth of Fargo’s population and economy. In 1872, Fargo became the county seat of Cass County and soon established itself as a major hub for commerce and transportation. The city faced several challenges in its early years, including devastating fires in 1893 and 1957 that destroyed large portions of the downtown area. However, each time, the resilient residents of Fargo came together to rebuild and revitalize their city. Today, Fargo is a thriving metropolitan area with a diverse economy that includes agriculture, technology, and healthcare. The city is also known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, with museums, theaters, and music venues attracting visitors from near and far.
