Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Edinburg, Texas, located in Hidalgo County, has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, the area was later settled by Mexican ranchers and farmers. The town was officially established in 1908 and named in honor of John Young, a prominent businessman who played a key role in its development. Throughout its history, Edinburg has been a hub for agriculture, particularly citrus and cotton farming. The city also became known for its cattle ranching industry and served as a major trading center in the region. Over the years, Edinburg has grown and expanded, becoming a bustling community with a diverse population. Today, the city is home to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and is a center for education, healthcare, and commerce in South Texas. Despite its growth and modernization, Edinburg has managed to preserve its history and cultural heritage, making it a unique and vibrant place to live and visit.
