Davenport, Iowa was founded in 1836 by Antoine LeClaire, a French-Canadian fur trader, who named the city after his friend, George Davenport. Situated along the Mississippi River, Davenport quickly became a prominent trading hub for the region. In the mid-19th century, the city experienced rapid growth thanks to its strategic location along the river and the development of the railroad system. Davenport became known for its manufacturing industry, particularly in the production of agricultural machinery and tools.
