Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Dallas, Texas was founded in 1841 by John Neely Bryan, a trader who saw the potential for a trading post on the banks of the Trinity River. The city quickly grew in size and importance due to its location on the railway lines and its status as a center for the cotton and oil industries. During the Civil War, Dallas served as a Confederate supply depot and hospital center, and after the war, it became a hub for cattle ranching and the infamous Dallas cattle drives. In the early 20th century, Dallas grew rapidly with the discovery of oil in the East Texas Oilfield, becoming a major center for the oil industry. Today, Dallas is a vibrant, diverse city with a thriving economy and a rich cultural scene. It is known for its world-class museums, bustling arts district, and famous sports teams. Dallas continues to attract visitors and new residents from around the country and the world, drawn to its unique blend of history, culture, and opportunity.
