Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Corpus Christi, Texas has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1839. Originally established as a trading post by a group of colonists led by Henry Kinney, the city quickly grew as a hub for cattle ranching, farming, and shipping industries due to its prime location on the Gulf of Mexico. The city’s name, which means “Body of Christ” in Latin, was chosen by Spanish explorer Alonso Ercilla as a nod to the religious festival he observed upon arriving in the area. Throughout its history, Corpus Christi has weathered various challenges, including battles during the Mexican-American War, devastating hurricanes, and economic downturns. However, the city has always persevered and continued to thrive. Today, Corpus Christi is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant arts scene, and bustling port, making it a popular destination for tourists and a key player in Texas’ economy.
