Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1796 by General Moses Cleaveland, Cleveland, Ohio quickly grew into a major industrial city due to its strategic location on the shores of Lake Erie. The completion of the Ohio and Erie Canal in 1832 further propelled Cleveland’s growth, as it became a key transportation hub for the Midwest. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Cleveland prospered as a center of steel production, shipping, and manufacturing. The city’s population boomed as immigrants from Europe and African Americans from the South flocked to Cleveland in search of work. However, the decline of the steel industry in the late 20th century led to economic struggles and population loss. In recent years, Cleveland has undergone a revitalization, with investments in healthcare, biotechnology, and the arts breathing new life into the city. Today, Cleveland is known for its cultural institutions, sports teams, and diverse neighborhoods, making it a vibrant city with a rich history.
