Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Clearwater, Florida has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s when it was first settled by the Tocobaga Native American tribe. The area was officially founded in 1835 by Odet Philippe, a French immigrant who established a plantation on the shores of Clearwater Harbor. The city got its name from the clear, pristine waters of the adjacent bay. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Clearwater grew into a popular resort destination, attracting tourists seeking relaxation and recreation. The city’s economy boomed with the development of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues along its beautiful beaches. In the mid-20th century, Clearwater experienced a population boom as more people relocated to the area for its warm climate and picturesque surroundings. Today, Clearwater is a bustling city known for its vibrant arts scene, world-class beaches, and diverse population. It remains a popular destination for tourists and residents alike, blending its rich history with modern amenities and attractions.
