Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Charlotte, North Carolina was founded in 1768 and named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III of England. The city quickly became a major trading center due to its strategic location at the intersection of two important Native American trading paths. In the 19th century, Charlotte’s economy boomed with the discovery of gold nearby, leading to the establishment of the first U.S. branch of the United States Mint in 1837. During the Civil War, Charlotte served as a major Confederate stronghold and was a hub for supplies and troops. After the war, the city experienced rapid industrialization, becoming a major center for textiles and banking in the region. Today, Charlotte is a vibrant and diverse city known for its thriving banking sector, cultural attractions, and professional sports teams. The city continues to grow and evolve, attracting residents and visitors alike with its rich history and modern amenities.
