Welcome to the Newto News for September of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally settled by Native American tribes, Canton, Ohio was officially founded in 1805 by Bezaleel Wells and Josiah Bartlett. The city quickly grew thanks to its location along important trade routes and the arrival of the Ohio and Erie Canal in the 1820s. Canton became known for its thriving agricultural industry and manufacturing sector, particularly in the production of agricultural equipment and steel. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Canton also became a hub for the growing automobile industry, with major companies such as the Timken Company and the Hoover Company establishing headquarters in the city. Canton gained national attention in the 1920s when a group of local businessmen formed the Canton Bulldogs football team, which later became a founding member of the National Football League (NFL). Today, Canton is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage, known for its Pro Football Hall of Fame and annual Hall of Fame Game, which draws visitors from around the country.
