Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Arapaho and Cheyenne peoples, the area now known as Boulder, Colorado, was first settled by European-American explorers in the early 19th century. The city was founded in 1858 during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush, and soon became a prosperous mining town. However, when the gold ran out, Boulder shifted its focus to agriculture and education. In 1876, the University of Colorado was established in Boulder, attracting students and scholars from across the country. The city’s population boomed in the early 20th century with the growth of the university and the establishment of federal research facilities in the area. Today, Boulder is known for its vibrant arts scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and progressive values. It has consistently been ranked as one of the best places to live in the United States, with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental conservation.
