Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally founded in 1729, Baltimore, Maryland has a rich and diverse history. During the 19th century, it served as a major hub for shipping and trading, thanks to its prime location on the Chesapeake Bay. It was also a key player in the War of 1812, famously defending Fort McHenry against a British attack which inspired the writing of the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In the years following the Civil War, Baltimore experienced rapid industrial growth, particularly in the steel and shipbuilding industries. The city also played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement, with protests and demonstrations taking place throughout the city in the 1960s. Today, Baltimore is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as its historic neighborhoods and iconic landmarks like the Inner Harbor. The city continues to evolve and thrive, while also preserving its rich historical heritage.
