Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1729, Baltimore, Maryland has a rich and diverse history. Originally settled by the Susquehannock Native American tribe, the city became a thriving port due to its strategic location on the Patapsco River. Baltimore played a key role in the American Revolution as a center for privateers and shipbuilding. During the War of 1812, Baltimore famously defended itself against British attacks, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The city continued to grow throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, becoming a hub for manufacturing and transportation. Baltimore is also known for its cultural contributions, including being the birthplace of Edgar Allan Poe. The city faced challenges in the 20th century with the decline of the shipping industry, but has since revitalized its economy with a focus on technology and healthcare. Today, Baltimore is a vibrant city known for its historic neighborhoods, world-class museums, and diverse culinary scene.
