Bakersfield, California, originally inhabited by the Yokuts tribe, was first settled by American settlers in the early 19th century. The town was officially founded in 1869 when the Southern Pacific Railroad established a station there, leading to rapid growth and development. By the early 20th century, Bakersfield had become a major hub for agriculture, particularly in oil production, earning it the nickname “Oil City.” The discovery of oil in the surrounding area brought wealth and prosperity to the region, leading to further expansion and development. Today, Bakersfield is the ninth most populous city in California and continues to be a key player in the state’s economy.
