Aurora, Colorado was founded in the 19th century as a small town on the outskirts of Denver. Originally a farming community, Aurora quickly grew in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the discovery of gold and silver in the nearby mountains. The city’s population boomed during World War II when the Fitzsimons Army Hospital was established in Aurora to treat wounded soldiers. After the war, the city continued to grow as a suburban community, attracting families with its affordable housing and proximity to Denver. In the 1980s and 1990s, Aurora experienced rapid development and expansion, with new shopping centers, schools, and residential neighborhoods springing up throughout the city.
