Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Aurora, Colorado, founded in the 1880s as a rural farming community, quickly grew into a bustling city with the arrival of the railroad in 1886. Named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century as industries such as manufacturing, mining, and military bases brought new residents to the area. During World War II, Aurora became a key manufacturing hub for the war effort, producing everything from aircraft parts to munitions. The city’s population boomed with the return of soldiers after the war, leading to the development of new neighborhoods and commercial districts. In the latter half of the 20th century, Aurora continued to grow and diversify, becoming a major center for healthcare, education, and technology. Today, Aurora is a vibrant and multicultural city known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, cultural attractions, and strong economy.
