Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Aurora, Colorado, originally known as Fletcher, was founded in the 1880s as a farming community on the outskirts of Denver. The city grew rapidly during the silver boom of the late 19th century, attracting settlers with its rich land and opportunities for mining. In 1907, the city was renamed Aurora after the Roman goddess of the dawn. During World War II, Aurora became a hub for military personnel and defense industries, leading to a population boom and urban development. The city continued to expand in the post-war years, becoming a major suburb of Denver. In the 21st century, Aurora has experienced both growth and challenges. The city has seen an influx of new residents, particularly from the tech industry, contributing to its diverse and vibrant culture. However, Aurora has also faced issues such as gang violence and economic disparities. Despite these challenges, Aurora remains a dynamic and resilient city, with a rich history and a bright future ahead.
