Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Anchorage, Alaska was originally home to indigenous Dena’ina Athabascan people who have lived in the area for thousands of years. The city’s modern history began in 1914 when it was chosen as a construction port for the Alaska Railroad. Anchorage quickly grew as a hub for transportation, trade, and military activity during World War II. In 1964, Anchorage was hit by a massive earthquake that caused widespread destruction but the city was quickly rebuilt and continued to prosper. The discovery of oil in the nearby Prudhoe Bay in the 1970s brought a new wave of growth and economic prosperity to the city. Today, Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city and serves as the economic and cultural center of the state. It is known for its stunning scenery, outdoor recreational opportunities, and vibrant arts and dining scene. Anchorage continues to attract visitors from around the world who come to experience its unique blend of modern amenities and natural beauty.
