Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Anaheim, California was founded in 1857 by a group of German immigrants led by George Hansen. Originally named Annaheim, after a nearby Santa Ana River, the city quickly grew as a center for agriculture and wine production due to its fertile soil and ideal climate. In the late 19th century, Anaheim became known for its citrus groves and vineyards, most notably producing Valencia oranges. The city experienced a significant population boom after the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1875, connecting Anaheim to major markets in Los Angeles and beyond. In the early 20th century, Anaheim saw the rise of the tourism industry with the opening of Disneyland in 1955. The theme park became a major economic driver for the city, attracting millions of visitors each year. Today, Anaheim is a bustling city known for its entertainment venues, sports teams, and diverse population. It continues to grow and thrive as a vibrant hub in Southern California.
