Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Albuquerque, New Mexico, has a rich history dating back over 1,000 years. Originally settled by Native American tribes such as the Pueblo people, the area eventually became part of the Spanish colonial empire in the 16th century. In 1706, Albuquerque was officially founded by Spanish Governor Francisco Cuervo y Valdés and named after the viceroy of New Spain, the Duke of Albuquerque. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Albuquerque grew into a major hub for trade and transportation, especially with the arrival of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad in the late 1800s. The city’s economy boomed with the development of the aviation industry, including the establishment of Kirtland Air Force Base and the construction of Route 66, which brought tourists and travelers through the city. Today, Albuquerque is a vibrant and diverse city known for its cultural heritage, Southwestern cuisine, and annual events such as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Its historic Old Town and stunning desert landscapes continue to attract visitors from around the world.
