Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Abilene, Texas was founded in 1881 as a small frontier town along the Texas and Pacific Railway. Named after the famous cattle town of Abilene, Kansas, the city quickly grew into a hub for cattle ranching and shipping. The discovery of oil in the early 20th century brought further prosperity to the area, attracting more settlers and businesses. During World War II, Abilene became home to Camp Barkeley, a large military training facility that helped boost the local economy. After the war, the city continued to expand, becoming a center for education, healthcare, and commerce in West Texas. Today, Abilene is known for its strong sense of community and rich cultural heritage. The city is home to several museums, art galleries, and theaters, as well as numerous annual events and festivals. With a population of over 120,000 residents, Abilene remains a vibrant and thriving city with a promising future.
